As a lifelong Alaskan growing up in Eagle River Valley, we got two channels on the TV one was NBC and the other was PBS and one of my favorite things to watch on PBS were the Ballroom Dance Competitions. I always marveled at their grace and connection. I wanted to be that follow with the flowing dresses or the glitzed-out sequin frill.
Many, many years later when setting goals and rewards for my future weight loss I planned that at 60 pounds lost I would screw up my courage and go to a lesson or two. When I reached and passed that goal over the summer of 2018, I was stoked to attend my first Kickoff Party and signed up for Introduction to Social Dancing. I have been hooked ever since.
In my first year I took several classes, Foxtrot, Waltz, Two-Step, 4-Count Swing, Cha-cha and Salsa Each different and each wonderfully challenging. The instructors are amazing, patient and tough when they need to be. The dances are always well put on and fun to go to. So when I was asked to join the Board it just seemed like the next best step.
I look forward to many more years of learning, dancing and helping others to enjoy the freedom of dance!
